12-year-old, Garrett Cox, is pictured below with his pet pig. Garrett has been diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. Garrett had one thing in his life that helped to ground him and bring him comfort; his pet pig, Bootsy.
Bootsy is a 400 lb support pig who Garrett spent his time feeding, bathing, and simply loving. Garrett and Bootsy have even won several awards in livestock shows.
So when Bootsy escaped the family's property in early May, Garrett was understandably upset. Garrett's parents immediately began searching the surrounding area, but when they heard a gunshot at a nearby home, their hearts sank.
Garrett's parents followed the sound of the gunshot, and what they discovered shocked them.
They found three family members standing over Bootsy's body. There was a rope with blood on it beside Bootsy, making it appear he had been tied up.
All three neighbors were wearing gloves and aprons near a pot of scalding water. This made it seem like they were in the process of butchering Bootsy.
What is even worse is when Garrett's parents confronted them on why they would k*ll Bootsy, who is very well-known in the area, they just laughed.
Garrett's parents contacted authorities, and 54-year-old Mai Kia Vang-Moua, 59-year-old Maysy Moua, and 33-year-old Kee Moua were arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty charges.
Police say the family claimed "they thought it was a wild pig". However, that is hard to believe due to the livestock ear tag. Also, the long time neighbors knew about the pet pig.
Bootsy has been buried next to the family's barn, and Garrett is trying to cope with the loss of someone special in his life.
