HACKER STEALS OVER $3,000 FROM CORY BOOKER'S REELECTION CAMPAIGN ACCOUNT. (PHOTO).

Hacker steals over $3,000 from Cory Booker's reelection campaign account

A hacker stole more than $3,000 from Sen. Cory Booker’s reelection campaign committee in an unauthorized transaction, according to campaign disclosures filed with federal regulators.

The incident involved a $3,092 charge made to an American Express account on Dec. 17 by an unknown individual, the campaign reported. The committee said it disputed the charge with its bank and opened a new account as a precaution to prevent further fraudulent activity, though the stolen funds have not yet been recovered.

In a statement, the campaign’s communications director said officials noticed suspicious banking activity last year and quickly alerted their financial institution. The campaign also said it strengthened its security measures and confirmed that no donor data was accessed and no internal systems were breached.

Federal investigators did not publicly comment on the matter.

Despite the loss, the missing funds represent a small fraction of the campaign’s finances. Booker’s reelection effort reported more than $22 million in available cash as of the end of March, according to the most recent filings.

The incident is part of a broader pattern of financial security issues affecting political committees across the country. In recent months, multiple campaigns, political action committees, and advocacy organizations have reported unauthorized withdrawals or internal financial theft.

Some cases have involved external hacking, while others stemmed from insiders with financial access. Several individuals connected to political organizations have faced allegations or convictions tied to embezzlement schemes involving campaign or PAC funds.

Past incidents have affected committees across party lines and included high-profile political groups and elected officials. Law enforcement agencies and federal regulators have continued to investigate cases involving fraudulent withdrawals and misuse of campaign finances.
