Mark Consuelos has spoken candidly about the loss of his father, Saul Consuelos, who passed away on March 23 after a long illness.
Appearing on the I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario podcast, the Live with Kelly and Mark co-host reflected on the painful five-month period leading up to his father’s death.
He recalled knowing the end was near but admitted that the reality of the loss still hit him hard.
Consuelos shared that he was able to say goodbye while working on the Broadway play Fallen Angels, and though he later learned of his father’s passing during rehearsals, the production served as a welcome distraction.
The actor explained that he had hoped for a merciful and peaceful passing for his father, which he was grateful ultimately happened quickly and without pain.
While the family has not disclosed details about the illness, Consuelos described his father as a “mythical character” and the best man he had ever known.
He credited much of his own values and the way he carries himself to lessons learned from his father, underscoring the deep influence Saul had on his life.
Consuelos also admitted to a new and heartbreaking realization: missing his father. He shared that he had never said those words before because his father had always been present and available to him.
The memorial service brought home the reality of the loss, making him acknowledge how much he will miss simple moments like hugging his dad, holding his hand, and laughing together.
Despite preparing himself for the inevitable, Consuelos said the grief remains profound, as he continues to process life without his father.
