  South Africa's Unemployment Rate Rises to 33.6% in Q2 2026 South Africa's unemployment rate climbed to 33.6% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 32.7% in the first quarter, according to new figures from the national statistics department. The number of unemployed people rose to 8.5 million, while the number of employed people fell by 16,000 to 16.7 million. The data shows job losses across key sectors including community and social services, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and utilities. The steepest declines were recorded in the Western Cape, Gauteng, and North West provinces. Officials did not provide clear reasons for the downturn, leaving the main drivers of the rising unemployment rate uncertain.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to inform the general public that our party primaries are scheduled to hold tomorrow, 29th May 2026.


It is therefore impossible and illogical for any primary results or winners to have emerged when the primaries are yet to take place.


We strongly urge the public and all well-meaning Nigerians to completely disregard the fake NDC primary results and false rumours currently circulating. Any result that does not emanate from official party sources should be disregarded.


NDC remains committed to a transparent and credible primary process. We appeal to all our supporters and registered members to stay vigilant and ignore any unverified information.
