 Serena Williams falls to 20-year-old Maya Joint in Wimbledon return after nearly four-year singles absence Serena Williams showed flashes of the power and precision that defined her Hall of Fame career in her return to professional singles tennis Tuesday, but ultimately fell short in a three-set opening-round loss at Wimbledon. The 44-year-old Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, was defeated 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 by 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in a match that lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes on Centre Court. It marked Williams’ first singles appearance in nearly four years, since the 2022 U.S. Open.  Nigeria Deepen Ties With Canada For Improved Trade, Security, Development Relations


Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Ojukwu has met with Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai and  agreed to renew commitment to strength bilateral relations in trade, security, and development. 


In a statement, Nigeria and Canada have recommited to expand cooperation in renewable energy, technology, agriculture, mining, education, and peace and security.


Bianca Ojukwu described the visit as timely and significant, particularly in light of Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and efforts aimed at creating a more conducive environment for foreign investment and sustainable economic growth.


She urged for more Canadian investment in fintech, solid minerals, and the creative sector.


Sarai commended Nigeria’s role in Africa and highlighted the strength of the Nigerian diaspora in Canada. 


He pledged Canadian support for education, climate resilience, women’s and youth empowerment, saying that Canada is ready to partner on nuclear technology, artificial intelligence, and data infrastructure.


Both sides also reviewed implementation of existing agreements on air services and investment protection to boost trade and legitimate travel.
