 Algeria arrests 61 Moroccans over alleged sabotage plot Algerian authorities announced they have arrested 61 Moroccan nationals earlier this month on suspicion of planning "acts of sabotage". In a statement carried by public media on Sunday, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) referred to "an international Moroccan criminal network" but did not provide details of the alleged plots. The 61 people, including a former soldier in the Moroccan army, "were preparing to commit acts of sabotage undermining security and public order", the DGSN said, AFP reported. It added that the suspects had entered Algeria via mountain trails from neighbouring Tunisia. POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY AND FORGERY CASE INVOLVING FAKE APPOINTMENT LETTERS


The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced investigation into another case of criminal conspiracy and forgery involving the production and circulation of fake appointment letters.


On 18th May 2026 at about 1600 hours, the Area Commander, Bauchi Metropolis, transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The suspect, Saleem Alhassan (Jagaban Ningi), male, of Zango Area, Bauchi Local Government Area, was also handed over for discreet investigation.


This development comes a week after the arrest and prosecution of two suspects in a similar case, which followed a formal complaint from the Office of the Head of Civil Service. Five fake temporary offers of appointment were recovered from the suspect.


Preliminary findings indicate that sometime in 2025, the suspect allegedly forged and printed fake appointment letters purportedly issued by a government office. Using these fraudulent documents, he defrauded unsuspecting members of the public, collecting sums ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦750,000 per person under the pretext of securing them employment.


It was later discovered that all the appointment letters and offers issued were forged and invalid.


Investigation into the matter is ongoing. Upon conclusion, the suspect will be charged to court if found culpable.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), warned members of the public to be wary of individuals or groups promising employment in exchange for money and urged anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station. The Command remains committed to protecting citizens from fraud and ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
