 Cuba introduces sweeping free-market reforms to decentralize state-run economy    Cuba has introduced a package of 176 free-market measures, which observers are calling the most sweeping economic overhaul of the island’s communist system since the Cuban Revolution. The aggressive policy shift aims to decentralize a state-run economy that has been heavily strained by a tightened U.S. embargo. Historically, the Cuban government has strictly controlled production, distribution, resource allocation, and pricing across the island. The newly approved plan radically dismantles long-standing pillars of the revolutionary economy, including the state’s monopoly on foreign trade and the strict centralization of productive forces. POLICE ARREST SUSPECTS FOR CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, DISTURBANCE OF PUBLIC PEACE AND MISCHIEF AT PDP SECRETARIAT, BAUCHI


Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command, attached to 'B' Division GRA, have arrested two suspects in connection with criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and mischief following an attack on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Secretariat in Bauchi.


According to a situation report received at the Command, on 24th May 2026 at about 1400 hours, unknown persons stormed the PDP Secretariat office located along Maiduguri Bypass while the party’s governorship primary election was in progress. The intruders disrupted the peace of law-abiding citizens, vandalized the campaign banner of the PDP governorship candidate, and damaged the windscreens of several vehicles parked along the roadside before fleeing on motorcycles.


Following the incident, which subsequently gained wide attention on social media, the Command activated intelligence and investigative measures that led to the identification and arrest of the suspects. Those arrested are:


1. Hamza Abdullahi alias “Dawa”, male, of behind Old Airport, Bauchi.  

2. Abdul Malik Dahiru alias “Black”, male, of Doya Area, Bauchi.


The suspects have been handed over to the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, Bauchi Command, for discreet and comprehensive investigation. Upon conclusion of investigation, they will be charged to court accordingly.


The Commissioner of Police, CPSani-OmoloriAliyu, mni, psc(+), strongly warned against acts capable of breaching public peace and destroying property, especially during political activities. He assures residents that the Command remains committed to providing a secure environment for all citizens and will not tolerate any form of violence or political thuggery.

Members of the public are further urged to remain calm and law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police formation.
