 Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes handed six-month driving ban Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been handed a six month driving ban after he racked up two convictions in the space of two days. The 51-year-old was caught speeding in a Range Rover in March while on a late-night drive through Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire. West Yorkshire Police brought a prosecution over the incident, as Scholes’ car had been clocked at 37mph on a 30mph stretch of residential road. The ex-England star was also taken to task by Greater Manchester Police after a Mercedes registered in his name was caught driving at 49mph in a 30mph zone in November last year. Scholes was then prosecuted for failing to respond to two police letters asking for confirmation that he had been the speeding driver. The two criminal cases culminated in hearings on two days last week, when Scholes was handed a six-month driving ban and ordered to pay fines, costs, and court fees totalling £1,472. A ...

POLICE RESPOND TO DISTRESS CALL, ARREST SUSPECT FOR GRIEVOUS HURT IN BAYAN GARI, BAUCHI


Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command attached to C Division have arrested a suspect and recovered the weapon used in a case of grievous hurt following a distress call from the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi LGA.


On 7th May 2026, the Officer-in-Charge of Bayan Gari Police Out Station received a distress call at about 2100hrs from a member of the management staff of Happiness Garden Hotel, Bayan Gari. The caller reported that at about 2035hrs, an intruder had entered one of the hotel rooms and severely injured a female guest.


Acting swiftly, the O/C and his team rushed to the scene. On arrival, they found a 40-year-old female victim with serious knife injuries to her face, chest, and hands. She was immediately evacuated to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for urgent medical attention and is currently stable and responding to treatment.


The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Haruna, male, aged 20 years, of Tirwun Area, Bauchi, was immediately arrested at the scene. The knife used in the attack was also recovered as an exhibit.


Ibrahim Haruna is in custody and under investigation at the Division. He will be transferred to SCID in due course for further investigation and prosecution.
