Ted Danson recently opened up about a lighthearted compromise he made for his wife, Mary Steenburgen. On his podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name, the actor recalled proudly wearing Speedos for about a decade before meeting Steenburgen.
However, when he tried them on during a family vacation, Mary firmly vetoed the look, with Danson’s daughters thanking her for putting an end to his Speedo era.
Looking back, Danson admitted it was the right call, with guest Adam Scott praising Steenburgen’s judgment.
Danson and Steenburgen, who met in 1993 while filming Pontiac Moon and married two years later, have long been considered one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples.
Danson has credited his wife with helping him grow personally, even pointing out his tendency to be “as mean as a junkyard dog” despite his nurturing nature.
Their relationship has also extended into their professional lives, with Steenburgen joining Danson on season two of Man on the Inside as his character’s love interest.
Working together reignited their romance, Danson shared, describing the experience as “magical” and saying they fell in love all over again while filming.
He noted that acting alongside his wife made intimate scenes easier, as he dislikes performing them with strangers.
Whether on set or in private life, Danson emphasized how deeply in love they remain, often joking about how “nauseatingly” affectionate they are.
