 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Texas high school track coach in intensive care after being struck by shot put during meet

 A Texas high school track coach is recovering in intensive care after a shot put struck him in the head during a weekend meet, an incident his family has described as a “freak accident.”

Blake Crutsinger, an assistant coach with Ponder Independent School District, suffered a skull fracture and brain swelling after being hit Saturday during a regional track and field event held under University Interscholastic League competition.

His wife said Crutsinger has remained in intensive care as doctors monitor swelling in his brain and gradually reduce sedation in an effort to help him breathe on his own. She added that recent updates show signs of improvement, including reduced swelling around his face and eye.

She also asked the public to keep the student-athlete involved in the accident in their thoughts, noting that the incident has been emotionally difficult for those who witnessed it. In a social media post, she said coaches, athletes, trainers, and others at the meet responded quickly, crediting their actions as critical in his early care and prognosis.

School officials said the community has rallied around Crutsinger and his family as he continues his recovery, expressing ongoing support as he remains hospitalized.
