 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Akon Says Many Famous Musicians Are Secretly Broke


Akon has opened up about the financial realities of the music industry, stating that many artists are not as wealthy as people often believe.


According to the singer, the glamorous lifestyles and luxury frequently displayed by musicians on social media and in music videos can be misleading, as a lot of artists are not financially secure.


Speaking during an interview with Hip Hop Eye, Akon explained that although the music business generates huge revenue, those working behind the scenes often earn more than the performers themselves.


He noted that executives and professionals in other sectors of the industry usually make more money than the artists who are in the spotlight.


“In the music industry, the artist is the last to get paid. He is the broke one but he is the most famous. If you want to be broke and famous, be the artist.


“But if you want to make real money go to other sectors of music business, like the producer, songwriter, manager, agent and attorney. There are so many areas in the entertainment field that you can really maximise,” he said.
