 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS CONVOY ATTACK: VOWS TO BRING PERPETRATORS TO JUSTICE

The Anambra State Government has condemned the attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, calling it a direct attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of the state.

 

According to Anambra State Government Press Statement, signed by Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, May 31, 2026, the incident occurred on Sunday night, May 31st, 2026, between 8:00pm and 9:00pm at the border between Orumba North and Awka South Local Government Areas. The Chief of Staff was returning from an official assignment when gunmen struck.


" This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our State, as well as the Government and people of Anambra", Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information said.


Sadly, four people lost their lives in the attack. The State government has expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims, noting that they “deserve justice.”


Dr. Mefor confirmed that the police and other security agencies are actively working to identify, track, and arrest all those involved in the attack.


The government also stressed that while Anambra has enjoyed over a year of improved security, this isolated incident will not weaken its resolve to eliminate all forms of crime in the State.


Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that can aid investigations.


The Anambra State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting every citizen and ensuring that those responsible for this “evil act” face the full weight of the law.
