John Mahama carried out an aerial assessment of flood-hit communities across Accra after torrential rainfall caused widespread flooding in the capital. On Monday, June 29, the Ghanaian president flew over the affected areas alongside government officials and members of the Anti-Flood Task Force to evaluate the extent of the destruction. During the inspection, they identified major engineering and environmental issues contributing to the flooding. Watch video below.

CP SANI-OMOLORI ALIYU CONDOLES WITH GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF KIRFI LGA OVER FATAL RAINSSTORM


The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Kirfi Local Government Area following a devastating rainstorm that claimed two lives earlier today.


According to preliminary reports, at about 1000 hours today, 10th June 2026, Kirfi LGA experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The severe weather incident resulted in the tragic loss of Aisha Sagir, 50-year-old, and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, 4-year-old, both of Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA.


In addition to the loss of lives, the rainstorm destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables worth millions of naira. Police operatives attached to Kirfi Division have visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage and to maintain order in the affected community.


CP Sani-Omolori expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the entire people of Kirfi LGA. He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.


The CP further assured residents that the Command, in collaboration with other relevant agencies, remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.


He also urged citizens to remain vigilant during this rainy season and to report any emergencies promptly to security agencies for swift response.
