 INEC COMMENCES DISTRIBUTION OF ELECTORAL MATERIALS FOR SENATORIAL BYE ELECTION IN RIVERS STATE The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Rivers state has commenced the distribution of electorial materials ahead of Saturday June 20 senatorial election for Rivers South East Senatorial District. While distributing the materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner  Johnson Alalibo Senikien assured of a free fair and transparent process. Four political parties are participating in the bye-election holding in seven  local government areas, with a total registered voters put at 858, 573 across 1,629 polling units. The bye election aims to fill the vacuum created, following the death of  Barry Mpigi, who was representing the Federal constituency.

Daveigh Chase, voice of Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and The Ring actress, dies at 35


Daveigh Chase, the former child actor known for voicing Lilo in Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and portraying the horror icon Samara Morgan in “The Ring,” has died at the age of 35.

She died Tuesday from complications related to meningitis and a blood infection, according to reports citing her boyfriend, who said she had been battling serious illness. He had previously shared in a fundraising effort that she had been diagnosed with meningitis along with multiple severe blood infections.

Reports also indicate she had been hospitalized earlier this month in Los Angeles for malnutrition.

Chase rose to prominence in the early 2000s with a series of standout roles across film and television. In 2001, she appeared in “Donnie Darko” as Samantha Darko, the younger sister of the film’s main character. She also voiced Chihiro in the English-language version of the acclaimed animated film “Spirited Away.”

Her breakout role came in 2002 when she voiced Lilo, the energetic young girl at the heart of Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” a role she later reprised in sequels and a television adaptation.

That same year, she gained widespread recognition for her role as Samara Morgan in the horror film “The Ring,” a performance that earned her a major award for best villain.

Born in Las Vegas and raised in Oregon, Chase began acting as a child, appearing in television shows including “ER,” “The Practice,” “Charmed,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” She later had a recurring role on HBO’s “Big Love.”

In her later career, she appeared in independent projects before largely stepping away from acting in the late 2010s, with her final credited film role coming in 2016.
