The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, 2026 a public holiday to mark Democracy Day.
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, says the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.
The Minister notes June 12 remains a significant date in Nigeria’s democratic journey and honours the sacrifices of those who fought for democratic governance.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirms the government’s commitment to the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
He urges Nigerians to use the occasion for civic reflection, national unity, and renewed commitment to democratic values.
