 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  FG SEEKS DEEPER TIES WITH ISRAEL IN MANY AREAS


The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Israel in agriculture, security, education, healthcare and technology as part of efforts to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic development.


Receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, says Nigeria possesses vast agricultural resources, a large population and enormous economic potential that can be further unlocked through strategic partnerships and investment. He also commends Israel’s achievements in agriculture, healthcare, education and technology, describing the country as a model of resilience and innovation.


Ambassador Freeman expresses Israeli’s readiness to collaborate with Nigeria in boosting food production through advanced agricultural technologies and capacity development. He also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in security, including counterterrorism, cybersecurity, border security and training, noting that both countries face similar security challenges requiring coordinated responses.
