 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Four sentenced to death by hanging over Owo church attack


‎Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced four suspects to death by hanging for executing the deadly June 5, 2022 attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.


‎The convicts were among the five accused persons who had been standing trial on a nine-count terror!sm charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS), in connection with the attack at the church that claimed the lives of 40 worshippers and left over 100 injured. The massacre triggered nationwide outrage and international condemnation, with widespread calls for authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack.


The convicts include Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza (25), Al Qasim Idris (20), Jamiu Abdulmalik (26), and Abdulhaleem Idris (25).


The fifth defendant, Momoh Otuho Abubakar (47), was discharged and acquitted.
