At the time, she was an aspiring artist sharing covers and original snippets on social media, hoping to build an audience. Unbeknownst to her, her unique sound had already caught the ears of the Mavin boss.


How an Ignored DM Led to a Global Record Deal


While the partnership has produced global hits, the road to her signing had a rather amusing start. Don Jazzy has previously shared his side of the discovery story, explaining that it was Ayra's undeniable originality that prompted him to reach out directly on social media.


However, getting in touch with the rising star was not as seamless as he hoped. Ayra Starr initially missed or failed to respond to his direct message. Determined to recruit her, the music mogul took an alternative route.
