Kaduna Govt To Support Family Of Mob Killing Victim, Gov. Uba Sani Assures

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has announced that the state government will take responsibility for the welfare of the family of the late Ummulkhairi Aliyu, who was killed by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.

During a condolence visit to the bereaved family on Saturday, the governor pledged government support for the deceased's husband and four children, including funding the children's education.

Ummulkhairi Aliyu, an Islamic teacher, was reportedly lynched on June 14 after she was accused of attempting to kidnap children. Her body was later set ablaze before security personnel restored order in the community.

Governor Sani described the incident as a barbaric act and assured the family that those responsible would face justice.

He noted that although he was away on official duties when the incident occurred, he immediately directed senior government officials to visit the family and provide support.

According to the governor, security agencies have made significant progress in their investigation. He disclosed that 41 suspects have been charged with culpable homicide, while another 41 individuals have been investigated. In addition, 30 suspects are facing charges of unlawful assembly.

Sani stressed that no individual found to have participated in the mob attack would be spared, emphasizing that taking the law into one's own hands would not be tolerated.

He also commended security agencies for their efforts but ordered a thorough investigation into the conduct of some security personnel, particularly the Divisional Police Officer serving the Maraban Jos area.

The governor said any officer found to have acted negligently or compromised the investigation would be held accountable.

The killing of Ummulkhairi Aliyu sparked nationwide condemnation, with religious leaders, civil society organisations, and human rights advocates calling for justice and stronger measures to address mob violence.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to prosecuting all suspects connected to the incident in accordance with the law.
