APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ATIKU MUST EXPLAIN THE LEGAL AND FISCAL BASIS OF HIS PETROL SUBSIDY PROPOSAL At his press conference in Abuja on Friday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar reiterated his proposed  “production subsidy” for locally refined petrol, which he said would reduce pump prices. He went further to ask President Bola Tinubu to slash the cost of diesel and petrol at the pump. That proposal raises important legal, fiscal and practical questions that he must answer. Section 205(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 provides that unrestricted free-market conditions shall determine wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products.  Kennedy family breaks silence on Trump 'illegally' adding his name to Kennedy Center

Donald Trump’s administration attempted to rename the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts shortly after his second term began, adding his own name alongside John F. Kennedy’s. The board approved the change in December, but the move quickly ran into legal trouble.

A judge ruled that altering the name of a national monument required congressional approval, and when the administration appealed, the court rejected the argument that fundraising would collapse without Trump’s name. The bronze letters were removed soon after.

The controversy drew sharp reactions from members of the Kennedy family. Joe Kennedy III told the Irish Star he was relieved by the ruling, calling the renaming effort “blatantly illegal.”

He emphasized that the center was created by Congress to honor President Kennedy’s legacy, not to serve political branding.

Meanwhile, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., serving as Health Secretary, took a softer stance, acknowledging his relatives’ frustration but insisting his focus was on saving lives rather than fighting over a building’s name.

The dispute underscored the tension between preserving historical memory and political influence. Joe Kennedy III stressed his pride in the values his family has defended for generations, framing the court’s decision as a victory for history and integrity.

For him, the Kennedy Center remains a symbol of service and sacrifice, while the legal battle highlighted how deeply protective people are of monuments that carry decades of meaning.
