Lauren Silverman, fiancée of America’s Got Talent host Simon Cowell, recently opened up about the strict social media rules she and Cowell have set for their 12-year-old son, Eric.
Speaking on This Morning, the 48-year-old entrepreneur explained her involvement with the “Raise the Age” campaign, which advocates banning social media for anyone under 16 in the U.K.
She revealed that Eric is not allowed social media and only uses a heavily restricted phone that allows texting and WhatsApp, but nothing else.
Silverman said her son’s reaction to the proposed ban was “really sweet,” as he expressed hope that platforms would become safer before he eventually joins them.
Silverman also reflected on her personal journey, recalling how her pregnancy with Eric was one of the most difficult times of her life because it coincided with the end of her first marriage. She admitted the situation was painful and heavily scrutinized by the media, leaving her unable to fully enjoy her pregnancy.
Despite the turmoil, she said she believed her relationship with Cowell was meant to be and has since built a positive co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband, Andrew Silverman, with whom she shares a 20-year-old son, Adam.
Looking back, Silverman described how she endured intense public attention, often feeling judged and overwhelmed. She said she coped by keeping her head down and pushing forward, even when she felt she deserved the criticism.
Today, she takes pride in how far she has come, emphasizing resilience and the importance of raising her children with humility and strong values.
Her advocacy for safer social media reflects her commitment to protecting Eric while encouraging him to grow up grounded, despite the family’s fame.
