Several employees were injured Thursday after the nose gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner unexpectedly collapsed while the aircraft was parked at a gate at Frankfurt Airport, according to the airline.
The plane was being prepared for a scheduled flight to Los Angeles when the incident occurred. Lufthansa said the aircraft’s nose landing gear suddenly retracted while it remained stationary at the gate.
No passengers were onboard at the time. Only crew members and ground staff were present during the incident, the airline said.
The airline reported that several people suffered minor injuries, including two cabin crew members and other employees working for service providers. Those injured were taken to a hospital for treatment, though the exact nature of their injuries was not immediately disclosed.
The flight was canceled following the incident, and passengers were rebooked on alternative flights to reach their destinations.
Lufthansa said it is working with relevant authorities to determine what caused the malfunction. Technical teams and support staff were deployed to the scene as part of the investigation.
“We are currently investigating the exact circumstances together with the relevant authorities. Technicians and support staff are on site. We will provide further information as soon as it becomes available,” the airline said.
