Authorities in Edinburgh, Scotland, have arrested a 36-year-old white man following a series of suspected anti-Muslim stabbings that left five men injured and multiple properties damaged.
The suspect allegedly roamed through the city's streets on Friday night, targeting individuals, vandalizing a vehicle, and damaging a local business. The violent spree initiated in the western part of Edinburgh near the Broomhouse mosque, where two worshippers were confronted and stabbed in a nearby park shortly after leaving the religious facility.
The attack continued across the city, with emergency services receiving subsequent reports of violence near shopping areas in both the western and northern districts. Three additional men were assaulted in the Telford Road and Leith Walk areas. Police Scotland officers eventually located and confronted the suspect. Although officers prepared to utilize a Taser to subdue him, the weapon was not discharged, and the man was taken into custody without further incident.
In total, five men—aged 22, 22, 24, 27, and 39—sustained varying degrees of injury during the attacks. Medical personnel treated three of the victims at a local hospital, and officials confirmed that none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Due to the suspected nature of the assaults, specialized counter-terrorism officers have joined local police to spearhead the ongoing investigation. Senior law enforcement officials condemned the violence, reiterating that racism and faith-based hatred have no place in Scottish society.
Representatives from the Scottish Association of Mosques expressed profound shock, alarm, and anger over the targeted violence. Community leaders emphasized that these disturbing assaults are the dangerous consequence of unaddressed prejudice and the normalization of anti-Muslim rhetoric in public discourse, which emboldens individuals to act out on hatred.
