 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. I see brilliance trapped by poverty and enormous promise abandoned by leadership,” ...

 Nigeria Explores Partnership With California In Education And Technology Advancement


Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has held a strategic meeting with the President of San José State University (SJSU), California, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, aimed at  strengthening collaboration in education, technology, innovation, and cultural exchange.


NiDCOM in a statement says the major outcome of the meeting was the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge Initiative, a summer programme at San José State University that will provide Nigerian students and young professionals with immersive training in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and medical devices.


The programme will combine specialised academic course work with industry exposure through engagements with leading technology companies, including Adobe, LinkedIn, and Jabil alongside participation in Black Engineer Week, offering valuable mentorship and networking opportunities with Nigerian professionals in the diaspora.


Hon. Dabiri-Erewa described the initiative as a significant step towards equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive skills while strengthening Nigeria's engagement with its highly accomplished diaspora community.
