Oyo School Abduction: Verydarkman Reacts to Bandits' Shocking N1bn and Sharia Law Demands
The recent mass abduction of 45 school children and seven teachers in Oyo State has sent shockwaves across Nigeria. The gravity of the situation escalated further after the terrorists responsible for the raid which also resulted in the tragic killing of one teacher released a list of audacious conditions for the release of their captives.
The Shocking Demands of the Oyo Kidnappers
According to emerging reports, the insurgents have laid down strict, politically and ideologically charged conditions. Their demands include:
• A ransom of ₦1 billion, to be deposited into an offshore account in the Benin Republic.
• The immediate release of convicted terrorists currently detained in the Agodi and Abolongo correctional facilities.
• The provision of two operational Hilux vehicles.
• A complete overhaul of Oyo State laws to implement and enforce Sharia law.
Verydarkman Sounds the Alarm on Sharia Demands
Popular social commentator Verydarkman (VDM) has voiced deep concerns over these developments, particularly the demand for Sharia law in a predominantly religiously diverse southwestern state. VDM suggested that these conditions highlight a much larger, insidious agenda threatening the nation's unity.
Reflecting on Nigeria's history, VDM drew parallels to the historic campaigns of Usman Dan Fodio, suggesting that contemporary insurgent groups are attempting to resurrect historical conquests to Islamise the region. However, he was quick to clarify that the vast majority of Nigerian Muslims do not subscribe to or support these radical ideologies.
Internal Fractures and the Danger Facing Captives
In his video analysis, VDM pointed out complex religious dynamics within the country, noting that extremist groups often do not recognize Yoruba Muslims as "true Muslims." He shared instances where some sects refuse to pray in Yoruba mosques, demonstrating the ideological divide.
Even more concerningly, VDM claimed that during abductions, radical groups often interrogate Muslim hostages. If the captives are found not practicing what the terrorists consider the "right" form of Islam, they face immediate execution, whereas non-Muslims are sometimes kept alive for ransom negotiations.
A Call for Urgent Government Intervention
With insecurity escalating, public figures are demanding more than just empty promises. Activist Hilda Dokubo recently criticized the administration, stating that citizens need decisive actions rather than sermons. Similarly, VDM warned that the state's slow response only emboldens these criminal networks.
"Every day these people are gaining strength," VDM warned. "What is the government doing about it? If nothing is done, this agenda will continue to spread."
