 Court Jails Two for N14.8m Fraud in Maiduguri Justice B.T Zannah of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on Monday, July 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced two to three years imprisonment. The convicts are: Babagana Bukar and Hauwa Chabri.  The convicts were arraigned on Monday, July 13, 2026 by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a separate one -count charge for the offence of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N14,800,000.00 (Fourteen  Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira). The charge against Bukar reads: "That you, Babagana Bukar sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N8,800,000.00 (Eight Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)  money belonging to Bunu Gambo Liman, being amount given to you through Babakura Umar and Bello Adamu for the supplies of 100 bags of IRS...

POLICE RESTORE CALM AFTER CLASH BETWEEN FARMERS AND HERDERS IN DARAZO LGA: INVESTIGATION ONGOING


The Bauchi State Police Command has restored normalcy in Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area following a violent clash that resulted in loss of life and destruction of property.


On 4th June 2026 at about 0920 hours, the Command received a distress report that suspected Fulani men attacked farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their farm at the outskirts of Lanzai, Lanzai Community, Darazo LGA.


In a reprisal attack, youths from Lanzai Community mobilized and proceeded to Dosho Village, a Fulani settlement, where they set fire to the area. About 50 huts were razed and several household goods were destroyed in the process.


The incident led to the death of seven persons, while six people sustained various degree of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention. Extensive damage was also recorded on residential structures and personal belongings.


Upon receipt of the report, tactical operatives were immediately deployed to the affected areas to restore law and order, prevent further escalation, and commence investigations. The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has been deployed as reinforcement to maintain peace, while patrols have been intensified in Lanzai, Dosho, and adjoining communities.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has directed a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the incident. He assured that perpetrators of the initial attack and those responsible for the reprisal will be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.


CP Aliyu further appealed to community leaders and residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring justice for all parties involved.
