TAYLOR SWIFT BRINGS OUT OSCAR-WINNING LEGEND FOR RARE, EMOTIONAL 'TOY STORY' PERFORMANCE THAT MIGHT MAKE YOU CRY. (PHOTO).

Taylor Swift brings out Oscar-winning legend for rare, emotional 'Toy Story' performance that might make you cry

At the Los Angeles premiere of Toy Story 5, Taylor Swift surprised fans by inviting legendary composer Randy Newman to join her on stage for a heartfelt performance of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

Newman, now 82, is the songwriter behind the franchise’s most iconic tracks, including the Oscar‑winning “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3. Swift praised him as the “architect of the Toy Story musical universe” and celebrated his ability to stir emotions through music.

The duo’s rendition of the beloved theme song was both nostalgic and playful. Swift sang the familiar lyrics while Newman, seated at the piano, added spontaneous responses at one point joking, “No one’s smarter than you!” in reply to her line.

The audience applauded the rare collaboration, which highlighted Newman’s enduring influence and Swift’s admiration for his artistry. Swift also performed her own new contribution to the soundtrack, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” co‑written with Jack Antonoff.

Though “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” has become synonymous with the Toy Story series, it never won the Oscar in 1996, losing to “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas.

Newman’s career, however, remains decorated, with 22 Academy Award nominations and two wins.

Swift’s involvement marks a new chapter in the franchise’s musical legacy, blending her contemporary style with Newman’s timeless storytelling.
