"You are financially stuck because of your partner" - Larsa Pippen on why she felt trapped in her marriage to Scottie

Scottie and Larsa Pippen’s marriage, which began in 1997, lasted nearly 24 years and was once seen as one of the NBA’s most recognizable unions. While Scottie built his Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Bulls and other teams, Larsa focused on raising their four children and supporting his demanding schedule.

Yet behind the public image, their relationship faced years of strain, with divorce proceedings first filed in 2016 and finalized in 2021. Both have since spoken openly about the challenges that led to their split.

Larsa has explained that the marriage left her feeling financially dependent and unable to pursue her own ambitions. She described the emotional toll of being “trapped” in a relationship where Scottie controlled the financial security, noting that she often put her career aside to prioritize family and his basketball commitments.

Even after his retirement, she said she lacked support when she wanted to build her own path, which prolonged a situation where they lived together despite no longer wanting to be partners.

Ultimately, the divorce settlement granted her half of Scottie’s retirement fund and other assets, recognizing her sacrifices throughout the marriage.

Since the separation, both have moved forward in different directions. Scottie has remained connected to basketball and recently drew attention for auctioning off memorabilia worth millions.

Larsa, meanwhile, has built the independent career she long desired, starring on The Real Housewives of Miami and launching ventures in fashion, jewelry, and endorsements.

While she has pursued new relationships, including with Marcus Jordan, she maintains a cordial relationship with Scottie.

For her, financial independence and career success mark the beginning of a new chapter beyond the high-profile marriage that defined much of her life.
