 Court Jails Two for N14.8m Fraud in Maiduguri Justice B.T Zannah of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on Monday, July 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced two to three years imprisonment. The convicts are: Babagana Bukar and Hauwa Chabri.  The convicts were arraigned on Monday, July 13, 2026 by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a separate one -count charge for the offence of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N14,800,000.00 (Fourteen  Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira). The charge against Bukar reads: "That you, Babagana Bukar sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N8,800,000.00 (Eight Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)  money belonging to Bunu Gambo Liman, being amount given to you through Babakura Umar and Bello Adamu for the supplies of 100 bags of IRS...

ABIA STATE POLICE COMMAND APPREHENDS SUSPECT FOR MALICIOUS DAMAGE VANDALISM AND STEALING  GOVERNMENT PROPERTY


*SUSPECT*

Chigozirim Elem, male, 25 years, of Amasiri, Afikpo North LGA, Ebonyi State, resident in Ugwunchara, Umuahia North LGA, Abia State.


*EXHIBITS RECOVERED*

* Four (4) double doors

* One (1) single iron door


*FACTS OF THE CASE*

1. In the command sustained effort to combat crime and protect public infrastructure, operatives of the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on actionable intelligence and in collaboration with the community vigilante, apprehended Chigozirim Elem, male, 25 years, who on 11th July 2026, unlawfully gained access into four (4) unallocated shops at Ubani Government Market and maliciously damaged and vandalized the premises and stole four (4) double doors and one (1) single iron door.


2. Upon sighting security operatives, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. The stolen items were successfully recovered.The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.


3. The Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding public assets and maintaining law and order.
