 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  ANAMBRA SAFE SCHOOL INITIATIVE OPERATIVES LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR A TEACHER WHO ALLEGEDLY FLOGGED A 12-YEAR-OLD BOY RESULTING IN HIS DEATH AT ADAZI-ANI


The Anambra State Police Command has activated its Safe School initiative Operations led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation, ACP Harrison Oruruo. The team will, amongst others, commence a manhunt for a teacher that allegedly flogged a 12-year-old student resulting in the victim's death at a school, in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of the State.


On receipt of the report in the evening of 16th July 2026, Police Operatives attached to Neni Division responded promptly and rushed the victim to a Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment.


The body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. Photographs of the deceased were taken, and preliminary observations revealed visible marks of violence on different parts of the victim’s body.

The case is under active investigation, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.


To this end, the Command has expressed deep concern over the tragic incident and assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that the Command will conduct a thorough, diligent, and transparent investigation.


The Command further reiterates its commitment to the protection of school children through the Safe School Initiative and urges members of the public with useful information that could aid the arrest of the suspect to report to the nearest Police Station or contact the Command through its emergency line 07039194332.
