One thing I’ve noticed since I came to Nigeria… some of the people we call “rich” in Cameroon might actually be considered poor here in Nigeria. πŸ˜‚πŸ‡¨πŸ‡²πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ You will hear some Cameroonians say: Life in Cameroon is better because the gap between the rich and poor is not too much. An average man lives better than an average man in Nigeria  But I think the problem is that we sometimes measure wealth differently. πŸ˜‚ Those rich people in Cameroon are more like the average man in Nigeria  In Nigeria, you can see somebody with a house, two cars and serious money, yet the person will still say: Me? I’m just managing. πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ Meanwhile, that same person might be considered very rich in Cameroon. I’ve actually met guys in Nigeria who consider themselves average or even poor, and I’m looking at them like: Oga, if you enter Cameroon with this your ‘poor’ lifestyle, they will give you a title! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Some people we call rich back home would probably be considered ordinary here.  Body of fresh graduate recovered from collapsed hostel in Anambra

Two bodies, a male and a female, have so far been recovered from the rubbles of the collapsed Elite 5-Star Hostel in Amaokpala, near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The building, which had about 60 rooms, caved in on Sunday night, July 26, 2026.

The female victim was identified by friends as Vivian Chinedum, a baker and a fresh graduate of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

According to Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS) friends said Vivian moved into the hostel in March 2026.

Recounting the moments leading to the collapse, some occupants of the building, who are also students of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, said there were warning signs before the tragedy.

One of the survivors, Grace Nweke, explained that at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, a food vendor in the building alerted residents through their WhatsApp group that the walls of the hostel were cracking.

She said that before many of the occupants could fully grasp the seriousness of the warning, they heard loud cracking sounds and immediately fled for safety.

Grace, who moved into the hostel in January 2026, said she had no idea the building was structurally unsafe until the incident occurred.

She added that they later learnt that the previous occupants had allegedly been directed to vacate the building because of its deteriorating condition.

However, the caretaker reportedly went ahead to rent the premises to unsuspecting students.
