A driver with Abia City Mass Transit has been arrested after allegedly deliberately crashing his bus into a stationary tipper truck near Benin, killing one passenger and injuring several others.
Ifeanyi Okwuaja was transporting passengers from Onitsha to Lagos when he became involved in a heated argument with a passenger seated at the front of the vehicle. During the exchange, Okwuaja allegedly threatened the man, who dismissed the threat and remained in his seat.
As the bus approached Benin, Okwuaja reportedly steered the vehicle into a broken-down tipper truck on the side where the passenger was sitting. The man died instantly. Other passengers sustained injuries.
After the crash, Okwuaja fled to his hometown in Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, where he was later arrested. Under interrogation, he reportedly confessed that he did not know the victim before the journey and said he acted out of “uncontrollable anger.”
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
