 Former Kennedy Center employees allege leadership delayed roof repairs before citing safety issues in closure decision Former Kennedy Center employees allege that the venue’s leadership knew about serious structural problems well before citing newly discovered hazards as the reason for its abrupt closure this month. The claims were outlined in a letter to Congress from a lawyer representing anonymous whistleblowers. The letter accuses the center’s executive director and chief operating officer, Matt Floca, of failing to prioritize roof repairs and stopping a funded repair plan in April. Floca disputes the allegations, saying recent inspections revealed that water damage had spread farther into the building than officials previously knew. In a September court declaration, Floca cited “acute risks to public safety” following an inspection that found deterioration in a roof terrace canopy and a partial ceiling collapse.  FOC WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND COMMENDS 81 DIVISION, PLEDGES ENHANCED SECURITY COLLABORATION


The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, has commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, and troops of the Division for their commitment to sustaining peace and security across Lagos and Ogun States.


Rear Admiral Mustapha gave the commendation on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, during a courtesy visit to the GOC at Headquarters 81 Division, Victoria Island, Lagos. He conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and stated that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army in addressing emerging security challenges. He emphasized that sustained intelligence sharing and inter-agency cooperation remain critical to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets.


Responding, Major General Babalola appreciated the FOC and his delegation for the visit and reaffirmed 81 Division’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Western Naval Command and other security agencies. He noted that no single agency can effectively address contemporary security challenges alone, stressing that sustained collaboration, joint training and intelligence sharing are essential to maintaining security within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.


The visit was attended by senior officers of Headquarters 81 Division and the Western Naval Command and concluded with the exchange of souvenirs, the signing of the Visitors’ Book and a group photograph.
