Former NBA star Lamar Odom is expected to resolve his DUI case in Las Vegas through a plea agreement later this month.
Odom, 46, was arrested on Jan. 17 and charged with driving under the influence, speeding and failing to maintain his lane. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in March.
Under the proposed agreement, Odom plans to enter a no-contest plea that would reduce the DUI charge to reckless driving. A no-contest plea allows a defendant to accept the court's punishment without admitting guilt.
A bench trial had been scheduled for Tuesday in Las Vegas Justice Court, but the hearing was postponed to allow for the plea to be entered later this month. Odom is not expected to appear in person.
According to the arrest report, a Nevada State Police Highway Patrol trooper stopped Odom after observing him speeding and changing lanes without using a turn signal on a Las Vegas highway. The trooper reported that Odom had bloodshot eyes and an odor of marijuana.
Odom denied consuming alcohol and told the trooper that his passenger had been smoking marijuana. The report also stated that Odom performed unsatisfactorily on field sobriety tests, allegedly failing to touch the tip of his nose during one test and losing his balance.
Odom enjoyed a 14-year NBA career, winning championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks.
Off the court, Odom's 2013 marriage to reality television star Khloé Kardashian drew widespread public attention and was featured on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The couple divorced months later. That same year, Odom was arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles, later pleading no contest and receiving three years of probation.
In 2015, Odom suffered a highly publicized medical emergency while staying at the Love Ranch. According to the recent arrest report, Odom told the trooper he had experienced 12 strokes and six heart attacks and claimed he had been "poisoned at the brothel in Pahrump."
