A 43-year-old Ghanaian TikTok user has been sentenced to prison for publishing videos falsely claiming that former President John Mahama buried 32 cows alive as part of a ritual to win the 2024 presidential elections.
The Accra Circuit Court handed down a one-year imprisonment sentence after the TikTok user, Camilla, pleaded guilty to charges of publishing false news and engaging in offensive conduct related to the unsubstantiated videos about President Mahama.
When asked by the court to provide the location of the alleged sacrifice, Camilla was unable to furnish any evidence to support her claims. The court did not offer an option for bail or a fine.
