 Soludo Appoints US-Based Infectious Disease Specialist as Special Assistant on HIV Diaspora Coordination

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has appointed United States-based infectious disease specialist, Prof. Chinelo Ngozi Animalu, as Special Assistant to the Governor on State HIV Diaspora Coordination and Development.


The appointment which was announced on July 10 reflects the Soludo administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s HIV response through global partnerships, diaspora engagement and the mobilization of international expertise and resources.


In her new role, Prof. Animalu will coordinate diaspora partnerships, facilitate technical support and develop sustainable strategies aimed at improving HIV prevention, treatment and care across Anambra State.


Prof. Animalu is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and holds senior medical leadership positions within the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system.


A distinguished clinician and academic, she earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees from Tulane University. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (FIDSA).


In recognition of her contributions to community health, Prof. Animalu received the 2025 Healthcare Heroes Award for Community Outreach and has been honoured with several awards for volunteerism and community service.


The Anambra State Government said the appointment demonstrates its determination to leverage global expertise and diaspora partnerships to improve healthcare delivery and build a more resilient healthcare system.


By bringing accomplished diaspora professionals into governance and public health initiatives, the Soludo administration aims to develop sustainable solutions that will contribute to a healthier and more prosperous Anambra State.
