HEALTH DISTRICT IV HOLDS SEND-FORTH CEREMONY FOR RETIRING ALBERT OBATEYE
The Lagos State Health District IV recently held a send-off ceremony to celebrate Mrs. Betty Allen Albert-Obateye, the former Environmental Health Director at the District, who retired from the Lagos State public service after 35 years of meritorious service.
Speaking at the event held recently at the Lagos Island East LCDA hall, ZAPPASS, Lagos, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District IV, Dr. Abimbola Bowale said Mrs. Albert Obateye is a dedicated officer and environmental advocate who has ensured environmental cleanliness across the health district.
Dr. Bowale, represented by Mr. Adekoya David, Director, Environmental Services, Lagos State Health District IV, prayed for her good health in retirement. He also advised her to take good care of her health by eating good food, especially more vegetables and fruits, and to involve herself more in community service.
There were also goodwill messages from her professional colleagues, family members and friends.
In her response, Mrs. Betty Albert-Obateye appreciated every guest who graced her pens-down and pull-out parade. She advised Environmental Health Officers to remain steadfast, honest and faithful in their duties, emphasising that public service is about serving the people rather than personal gain.
Furthermore, Mrs. Albert-Obateye encouraged officers to carry out their responsibilities with love, compassion and integrity, treating everyone equally regardless of their social or economic status.
The retiring officer also noted that environmental health is a noble and rewarding profession that should be practised with passion and commitment to the ethical standards of the profession.
According to her, the love for environmental health has kept her committed throughout her service and will continue to inspire her even in retirement.
Mrs. Albert-Obateye started her career as an Environmental Health Officer with the Lagos State Government in 1991 and served as a Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer (DSNO) with the World Health Organisation (WHO) from 2000 to 2003, and received an award as the Most Active Staff of the Year in 2006.
During the 2014 Ebola outbreak, she served as one of the WHO Ebola Team Managers at the Lagos International Airport, Ikeja.
Throughout her career, she attended several professional training programmes, including one on climate change and waste management.
