 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. I see brilliance trapped by poverty and enormous promise abandoned by leadership,” ...

 "I don't believe in all these diagnoses" - Shaquille O'Neal shares message for parents of autistic kids


Shaquille O’Neal’s openness about his own challenges has shaped the way he speaks to parents raising children with special needs. The NBA legend has shared that he grew up with ADHD, which made school difficult and left him feeling judged. 


He recalled being labeled unfairly by teachers and struggling with stuttering, experiences that gave him empathy for kids who are treated differently. So when asked about autism during an interview in Abu Dhabi, O’Neal didn’t focus on medical terms or diagnoses.


 Instead, he emphasized love, protection, and responsibility. “A child is a child,” he said, explaining that parents should focus on providing care and support rather than labels. 


His perspective comes from personal experience, and he even took time after the game to meet a fan’s son with autism, showing the generosity that has become part of his reputation.


That generosity extends far beyond basketball. O’Neal has countless stories of helping strangers in everyday situations from covering grocery bills to buying laptops for kids in need. 


He explained that his mother taught him to step in when he sees someone struggling, and he continues to live by that principle. 


Whether through large donations or small acts of kindness, Shaq has built a legacy of compassion, proving that his impact off the court is just as powerful as his dominance on it.
