Kirsten Storms' 'General Hospital' character exits after 21 years as Maxie Jones relocates to Australia

Kirsten Storms' long-running role as Maxie Jones has been written out of General Hospital, with Thursday's episode revealing that the character is relocating to Australia after returning from a recent coma storyline.

The exit marks the end of Storms' latest run on the soap, where she has portrayed Maxie since 2005. A representative for General Hospital did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the character's departure.

Storms had only recently returned to the series after taking a six-month hiatus between July 2025 and February 2026. During that break, she told fans she planned to undergo brain surgery. Following her return, she appeared in a limited number of episodes before announcing another leave from the show last month.

At the time, Storms said she was not comfortable returning to Los Angeles because of ongoing legal matters involving her ex-husband, Brandon Barash.

"Given what's been going on, I can't say I will feel comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work. This has been an eye opening experience about the downside of my profession," she wrote on Instagram.

Her latest absence comes as legal proceedings involving Barash continue. In April, Barash obtained an emergency restraining order, alleging that Storms was experiencing a mental health crisis.

According to court filings, Barash also raised concerns about the wellbeing of their 12-year-old daughter, Harper, citing what he described as financial and housing instability following the couple's 2016 divorce. He alleged that Storms did not have a permanent residence for several months after relocating to Tennessee and frequently moved between hotel rooms because she believed people were following her.

Barash also claimed Storms' vehicle was at risk of repossession during that period and alleged that he loaned her $5,000 to help address the issue.

Storms and Barash met while working on General Hospital before marrying in 2013. They divorced in 2016 and share one daughter.
