Former Catholic Knight arrested over alleged ritual cleansing exercise in Nnewi Vigilantes in Nnewi have arrested Sir James Louis Okoye, a former Catholic Knight of St John International, who reportedly renounced Christianity during the official opening of Our Lady of Assumpta Catholic Church, Nnewi in January this year over non-recognition of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. Okoye was arrested after he was seen on Saturday wearing a red dress with fresh palm fronds between his lips, with a bell in hand, performing what he believed was the ritual cleansing of Nnewi land on the streets of the town. Okoye gained popularity in January, during the official consecration of the Nnewi Catholic Cathedral, where he decried the non-recognition Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who he believed built the cathedral to almost completion before his death. LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT WON EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA FINANCE (EMEAFINANCE) ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2025 IN RECOGNITION OF ITS DEBUT N14.815 BILLION GREEN BOND ISSUANCE AS THE BEST GREEN BOND IN AFRICA.(PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE


 Lagos State government won Europe, Middle East and Africa Finance (EMEAFINANCE) achievement Awards 2025 in recognition of its debut N14.815 Billion Green Bond Issuance as the best Green Bond in Africa. 

The award presented in London was received on behalf of Lagos State by Mrs. Hauwa Bello, Country Head, Public Sector Group, Stanbic IBTC.

Presenting the award to Lagos State government which was received by the Permanent Secretary, Debt Management Office, Mrs. Alake Sanusi on behalf of the State Government. 

Mrs. Bello congratulated the State for emerging as the Best Issuer of the Green Bond in 2025 with her debut Green Bond Issuance. She encourages the State to sustain the efficient management of the state finance that influenced the emergence of the State as the winner.

Receiving the  award on behalf of Mr. Governor, Mrs. Alake Sanusi, Permanent Secretary, Debt Management Office and Dr. John Adetola, Accountant General/Permanent Secretary appreciated Stanbic IBTC for receiving the award on behalf of the State. She stated that the award is a testament to the efficient, transparent and accountable management of the State finances and that the award is a further challenge to sustain the current form for more recognition in the future.

She declared that the award is dedicated to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his leadership, Commissioner of Finance and good people of the State.
