 ENUGU STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE ENUGU POLICE SECURE CONVICTION OF PHONE SNATCHER, WHO IS SENTENCED TO THREE AND FIVE YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT CONCURRENTLY; ANOTHER SUSPECT REMANDED FOR SHOPLIFTING The Enugu State Police Command has secured the conviction of a male phone snatcher, who was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and five years for robbery, with both sentences to run concurrently. In a separate case, another male suspect was arraigned and remanded for allegedly stealing alcoholic beverages from a popular supermarket in Enugu. The cases, handled by the New Haven Police Division, underscore the Command’s commitment to professional policing, thorough investigations and diligent prosecution of criminal cases.  LASEMA SUBDUES FIRE INCIDENT AT KETU-IKOSI 


… No Casualties Recorded, Two Firefighters Treated, Stabilised For Exhaustion


The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, has successfully brought a fire incident at No. 11, Ademola Taiwo Street, Ketu-Ikosi under control.


The incident involved one of a pair of twin three-storey residential buildings. Upon arrival of the Tiger Squad, it was observed that the fire had engulfed the topmost floor of the affected building. Swift and coordinated firefighting operations were immediately commenced to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to the adjoining twin building and other nearby properties.


Preliminary investigations by LASEMA’s Response Team revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge from the prepaid meter located at the front section of the building’s balcony, before extending to the topmost floor.


During the firefighting operation, two officers of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service collapsed while combating the fire. The Agency’s Response Team promptly evacuated both officers to the Trauma Centre for immediate medical attention using the Agency’s ambulance and a LASEMA Response Team vehicle. Both officers are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition.


Fortunately, no loss of life or civilian injuries were recorded in the incident. Dampening-down operations are currently ongoing at the scene to eliminate residual heat and prevent any possibility of re-ignition. Recovery operations are also in progress to secure the affected structure and assess the extent of damage.


LASEMA appreciated the professionalism and gallantry of all emergency responders, particularly the Tiger Squad and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, whose swift intervention prevented what could have been a more devastating outcome.


The Agency further urged residents to ensure regular inspection and maintenance of electrical installations, especially prepaid meters and wiring, to prevent electrical surges that may lead to fire outbreaks.


Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, advised members of the public to remain calm and to cooperate with emergency personnel on ground as operations are concluded. He also implored Lagosians to call the Lagos State Emergency Toll-Free Lines 112 / 767 for immediate response to emergencies.
