 How Bauchi Accountant-General Transferred State Funds to Private Company - Witness   Trial of the Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sirajo Muhammed Jaja continued on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu with a witness revealing how Jaja diverted state funds to a private company. Jaja is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC ,  alongside Aliyu Abubakar, Abubakar Muhammed Hafiz, Ari Manga and Muhammed Aminu Bose, for alleged corruption. The defendants are being prosecuted by the EFCC on an amended five-count charge of money laundering, diversion of public funds, and criminal misappropriation of funds to the tune of N1,635,270,350.9 (One Billion, Six Hundred and Thirty-five Million, Two Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Naira, Nine Kobo). Man dies after self-immolation outside UN headquarters in New York with Tibetan flag present, officials say

   

A 52-year-old man died Thursday after setting himself on fire outside the United Nations headquarters in New York, according to police.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when emergency responders were called to the area and found the man suffering from severe burn injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His name has not been released pending notification of family members.

Police said an investigation is ongoing, and the circumstances leading up to the act remain unclear. Officials noted that a Tibetan flag was present at the scene, though they have not confirmed a motive.

A United Nations spokesperson said the incident took place after all scheduled meetings had concluded for the day and did not disrupt U.N. operations.

The case comes amid a long history of self-immolations linked to Tibet-related political grievances. Human rights groups have documented more than 150 such incidents between 2009 and 2022.
