 Northwest University Debunks Claim Emir of Kano Sanusi Attended Lecture To Clear Carry-Over Northwest University, Kano, has dismissed a viral claim that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended a lecture at the institution to clear an alleged academic carry-over. The university described the claim as false, baseless and misleading in a disclaimer dated August 10, 2026, issued by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, and published on its Facebook page. The institution said it had observed the circulation of a video showing Sanusi after attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university. According to the university, some social media users subsequently attached captions to the video claiming that the Emir had a carry-over and visited the institution to resolve the alleged academic deficiency. NASARAWA POLICE COMMAND FOILS KIDNAPPING IN AKWANGA LG; RESCUES FOUR VICTIMS


The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping operation and rescued four kidnapped victims during a swift tactical response by police operatives attached to Andaha Division, Akwanga Local Government Area.


According to a statement by the command's public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, the incident occurred on the 21st of July, 2026, at about 9:40 p.m., following a distress call reporting that suspected kidnappers were operating around Megona Filling Station, Andaha, along the Akwanga–Jos Road.


The Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised and led a team of operatives to the scene. On sighting the police, the armed hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, leading to a gun duel. However, the police responded with superior tactical firepower, forcing the criminals to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding bush with varying degrees of injuries.


The four kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt, while several provisions believed to have been stolen from a nearby provision store were recovered and taken into police custody.


The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed has commended the gallantry and swift response of the operatives, describing the rescue as a testament to the Command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.


The Commissioner has ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects and directed that all available operational and intelligence assets be deployed to ensure their immediate arrest and prosecution.


The ongoing operation is being conducted in collaboration with the military, local vigilante groups, and hunters, with sustained bush-combing operations currently underway to apprehend the criminals.
