 Former Kennedy Center employees allege leadership delayed roof repairs before citing safety issues in closure decision Former Kennedy Center employees allege that the venue’s leadership knew about serious structural problems well before citing newly discovered hazards as the reason for its abrupt closure this month. The claims were outlined in a letter to Congress from a lawyer representing anonymous whistleblowers. The letter accuses the center’s executive director and chief operating officer, Matt Floca, of failing to prioritize roof repairs and stopping a funded repair plan in April. Floca disputes the allegations, saying recent inspections revealed that water damage had spread farther into the building than officials previously knew. In a September court declaration, Floca cited “acute risks to public safety” following an inspection that found deterioration in a roof terrace canopy and a partial ceiling collapse.  NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE IMPLEMENTS 2026 FISCAL POLICY MEASURES/ TARIFF AMENDMENTS


The Federal Government has approved the implementation of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments to strengthen Nigeria's fiscal and trade framework, boost competitiveness, and enhance revenue generation.


A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, says the measures introduce key changes to the Customs and Excise Tariff. 


These include revised ECOWAS Common External Tariff lists, import and export prohibition lists, excise duty schedules, and a Green Tax surcharge on vehicles with engine capacities of 2,000cc and above.


Importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents, and other stakeholders are required to familiarise themselves with the new tariff schedules and comply with the updated fiscal and regulatory requirements.


The Nigeria Customs Service has published the full document on its official website to promote transparency and ensure smooth implementation.


The Service says successful implementation will depend on stakeholders' cooperation in advancing trade facilitation, revenue collection, border security, and sustainable economic growth.
