  South Africa's Unemployment Rate Rises to 33.6% in Q2 2026 South Africa's unemployment rate climbed to 33.6% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 32.7% in the first quarter, according to new figures from the national statistics department. The number of unemployed people rose to 8.5 million, while the number of employed people fell by 16,000 to 16.7 million. The data shows job losses across key sectors including community and social services, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and utilities. The steepest declines were recorded in the Western Cape, Gauteng, and North West provinces. Officials did not provide clear reasons for the downturn, leaving the main drivers of the rising unemployment rate uncertain.

 Prof. Yakubu Presents Letter Of Credence To Amir Of Qatar


Nigeria’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has presented his Letter of Credence to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar.


The ceremony was conducted with full honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour.


During a private audience, the Amir reaffirms the longstanding and cordial relations between Nigeria and Qatar.


He recalled past high-level visits between both countries and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.


Ambassador Yakubu, on his part, condoled with the Amir over the recent accident at the Ras Laffan Industrial City and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Qatar in trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
