  South Africa's Unemployment Rate Rises to 33.6% in Q2 2026 South Africa's unemployment rate climbed to 33.6% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 32.7% in the first quarter, according to new figures from the national statistics department. The number of unemployed people rose to 8.5 million, while the number of employed people fell by 16,000 to 16.7 million. The data shows job losses across key sectors including community and social services, mining, agriculture, manufacturing and utilities. The steepest declines were recorded in the Western Cape, Gauteng, and North West provinces. Officials did not provide clear reasons for the downturn, leaving the main drivers of the rising unemployment rate uncertain.

 Set designer Mary Kate Golding found dead in Queens home as police investigate possible murder-suicide


Police are investigating the deaths of television set designer Mary Kate Golding and her husband after the 34-year-old was found fatally stabbed inside her Queens home.


According to the New York Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight on Tuesday, July 21, to a residence in Astoria, where they found Golding with a fatal stab wound to her back. She was pronounced dead at the scene.


Several hours later, at about 6:39 a.m., officers responded to a separate 911 call reporting an unconscious person near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard. Police found an unresponsive man in the park, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.


An NYPD source identified the man as Joseph Azzaretto, Golding's husband.


The same source said investigators are treating the case as a possible murder-suicide. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths, and the investigation remains ongoing.
