 NDPC LAUNCHES FORENSIC DATA PRIVACY INVESTIGATION INTO UNILAG, LOTUS BANK, AND HACKERBELLA The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) is investigating the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lotus Bank, and Hackerbella Ltd. This probe follows complaints that student data was used to open bank accounts without permission. The data sharing was reportedly part of a "Smart ID Card" project that mixed student IDs with bank cards. National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, ordered a full review of how this student information was collected and shared. Investigators are checking if the organizations followed the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023. They will look into the companies' privacy notices, data security, and whether they used automated systems to score or profile students. A community activist from Mahikeng Province in South Africa, who appeared in a heated, viral video telling foreign shop owners to shut down their business and leave the country, has been reportedly shot dead.


The man, identified as Thato Molosankwe, was killed at his own house. Reports say he was shot five times. However, it could not be confirmed whether the attack was carried out by a lone gunman or not. The attack happened just days after a video of him went viral across social media.


In that video, Molosankwe was seen confronting Somali shop owners. He told them in clear terms to close their shops "before Friday". He said they had no right to trade in the area and must vacate the premises immediately. 


The video spread quickly and sparked strong reactions from different sides. Some people backed his message. Others called it intimidation and hate speech.
