Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes handed six-month driving ban Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been handed a six month driving ban after he racked up two convictions in the space of two days. The 51-year-old was caught speeding in a Range Rover in March while on a late-night drive through Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire. West Yorkshire Police brought a prosecution over the incident, as Scholes’ car had been clocked at 37mph on a 30mph stretch of residential road. The ex-England star was also taken to task by Greater Manchester Police after a Mercedes registered in his name was caught driving at 49mph in a 30mph zone in November last year. Scholes was then prosecuted for failing to respond to two police letters asking for confirmation that he had been the speeding driver. The two criminal cases culminated in hearings on two days last week, when Scholes was handed a six-month driving ban and ordered to pay fines, costs, and court fees totalling £1,472. A ...

TROOPS OF OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA FOIL MULTIPLE KIDNAP ATTEMPTS, RESCUE RECTOR OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IN ZAMFARA STATE

Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded further successes, foiling multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 28 July 2026 when troops responded to a distress call on terrorist activities around Tsohon-Tasha Street, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. The terrorists had invaded the residence of the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident, before attempting to abduct the Rector and his family.

Troops arrived promptly and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon their victims. The Rector and his family were rescued unharmed.

In another operation on the same day, troops on night patrol received a distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, reporting an ongoing attempt by terrorists to abduct civilians. Despite difficult terrain that slowed initial movement, troops closed in on the fleeing suspects, engaged them, and foiled the abduction.

Simultaneously, troops engaged another group of terrorists in the same community attempting to kidnap a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria. Prompt intervention forced the terrorists to flee and abandon their mission. Alhaji Azaria, along with 21 other civilians abducted from neighbouring houses, were rescued.

In a related development, troops arrested a suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf (45), believed to have collaborated with the terrorists. He has been handed over to relevant authorities for investigation and further necessary action.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commends the vigilance, courage, and professionalism of the troops, and reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and the larger North West Region.
