 PRESS RELEASE ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTIST, RECOVERY OF LOCALLY MADE SINGLE-BARREL PISTOL In the ongoing efforts of the Lagos State Police Command to combat cultism and other violent crimes across the State, operatives of the Command have arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity cult group and recovered one locally made single-barrel pistol in Mushin. Following credible information on cult-related activities at Ogunmokun Under-Bridge, Mushin, operatives immediately mobilised a surveillance team to the area and arrested one Segun Alani, ‘m’, aged 24 years. A search of the bag in his possession led to the recovery of one locally made single-barrel pistol, which was concealed inside the bag. The suspect is currently in Police custody and providing useful information to aid the investigation. A FORMER NORTH CAROLINA COP WHO ALLEGEDLY PLOTTED A MASS SHOOTING TARGETING BLACK PEOPLE AT A NEW ORLEANS FESTIVAL IS WALKING FREE. NO CHARGES. (PHOTO).

 A former North Carolina cop who allegedly plotted a mass shooting targeting Black people at a New Orleans festival is walking free. No charges. 


Christopher Gillum, 45, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was arrested in April 2026 at a Destin, Florida hotel. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies recovered a handgun and roughly 200 rounds of ammunition from his room. Authorities said he was heading to a large festival in New Orleans. The timing lined up with Jazz Fest.


His own family had reported him missing and told police he had expressed recent threats to harm “Black people.” He was wanted in Orleans Parish on terroristic threats. Multiple agencies across North Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana scrambled. The arrest stopped him before he reached Louisiana.


Then in June, a Louisiana grand jury declined to indict him on the state terrorizing charge that could have brought up to 15 years. He was released. Charges were dropped. His lawyer says he’s facing nothing in any jurisdiction. 


Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office later pointed to jurisdictional problems and said the statements to family were vague and didn’t clearly show intent to commit crimes inside Louisiana. They also noted he never actually made it into the state until after the arrest.
