38-year-old Bonnie Pierce was the embodiment of courage and selfless unyielding love. She made the ultimate sacrifice, disregarding pain and the need for oxygen to ensure her young daughter's future.
On Saturday, August 22nd, 38-year-old Bonnie Pierce was spending the day with her daughters at their duplex in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The serenity of the day was shattered when a fire broke out in the home. The flames spread quickly, leaving little time for a response. Bonnie and one of her daughters quickly exited the building while a second daughter escaped through a window.
Bonnie realized her toddler had not come out of the duplex with any of the family. Without hesitation, Bonnie barreled back into their home, determined to rescue the young girl.
She would not be seen again until firefighters were able to enter the apartment.
When entry was made, firefighters found Bonnie laying on top of her toddler. She had used her body to protect the child from the inferno.
Bonnie ultimately suffered burns over 48% of her body. Doctors estimate she had been deprived of oxygen for around 15 minutes.
Bonnie was rushed to a nearby hospital where, once again, she displayed her incredible strength by fighting for her life.
Sadly, Bonnie succumbed to her injuries on Monday, August 24th.
However, the young daughter Bonnie had given her absolute everything to save is expected to make a full recovery.
This is a heartbreaking testament to a mother's love. Some say they would walk through fire for their children. Bonnie Pierce did.
Our thoughts are with all of Bonnie's loved ones.
